Steve Salfield duo/trio/quartet/quintet

Cool and funky modern jazz group –
Two to five piece band for parties, weddings, artistic occasions and concerts – listening and dancing music

salfield/chandler

Led by saxophonist Steve Salfield and guitarist Matt Chandler this exciting new quartet plays melodic modern jazz. It’s good to listen to, with foot tapping rhythms and beautiful melodies.

The original material is developed by Salfield and Chandler who get together for improvising and composing sessions. When promising ideas emerge, they are developed into themes or new tunes, which form the basis for the quartet’s improvising material. The result is a mix of wistful free ideas, funky rhythmic dance numbers, melodic waltzes and anything else that emerges, always with an open door to allow new things to happen during a performance. The band also plays well known jazz standards including tunes by Wayne Shorter.

The quartet of excellent musicians with Richard Keates on double bass and Clive Loveday on drums works as a close knit unit with improvised lines from Salfield and Chandler  weaving together then moving apart, and rhythmic ideas from Keates and Loveday moving the band in directions expected and unexpected.

A demonstration CD is available.
